On Christopher Street : Transgender Stories Photographs by Mark Seliger
« Encounters after nightfall led photographer Mark Seliger to capture the beauty, the struggle, and the theatre of a famous but vanishing neighborhood, as well as one of the biggest civil rights issues of our time. Using one camera, one type of film, and one light source, Seliger made the reductive decision he felt best suited to honor his subjects and destination. These portraits, taken in the heart of Greenwich Village’s most famous street, where lines of gender identity are dramatically blurred, brought him back to his roots and his love for documentary and environmental portraiture. » (texte de présentation). Photos en noir et blanc.
