L’historien de l’art Ruud Priem, chef de département et conservateur des beaux-arts au Musée national d’histoire et d’art de Luxembourg, a élaboré le concept et sélectionné les œuvres d’Olaf et d’Op de Beeck, initiant ainsi une collaboration unique. Il est centré sur l’admiration partagée des artistes pour l’œuvre du photographe luxembourgeois Edward Steichen (1879-1973) et leur respect mutuel. Le livre juxtapose la série Im Wald d’Olaf avec des aquarelles et des sculptures d’Op de Beeck et des photographies de paysages de Steichen. Bien que très différents, des connexions surprenantes émergent entre les trois artistes dans cette présentation des images en noir, blanc et nuances de gris.
Cette publication accompagne l’exposition Erwin Olaf & Hans Op de Beeck : Inspiré par Steichen au Musée national d’histoire et d’art (MNHA) à Luxembourg du 16 décembre 2022 au 11 juin 2023, organisée par Ruud Priem. Parallèlement à leur exposition conjointe, Olaf et Op de Beeck sont les conservateurs invités d’une sélection de photos de Steichen dans la salle Steichen du MNHA.
Art historian Ruud Priem, department head and curator of fine arts at the Musée national d’histoire et d’art in Luxembourg, came up with the concept and selected the works of Olaf and Op de Beeck, thus initiating a unique collaboration. It centres on the artists’ shared admiration for the œuvre of the Luxembourg photographer Edward Steichen (1879–1973), and their mutual respect. The book juxtaposes Olaf’s series Im Wald with watercolours and sculptures by Op de Beeck and landscape photographs by Steichen. Although very different, surprising connections emerge between the three artists in this richly varied presentation of images in black, white and shades of grey.
This publication accompanies the exhibition Erwin Olaf & Hans Op de Beeck: Inspired by Steichen at the National Museum of History and Art (MNHA) in Luxembourg from 16 December 2022 to 11 June 2023, curated by Ruud Priem. Alongside their joint exhibition, Olaf and Op de Beeck are the guest curators of a selection of photos by Steichen in the MNHA’s Steichen Room.
