Au Nouveau Bauhaus et plus tard à l’Institut de Design, des professeurs comme László Moholy-Nagy, György Kepes, Arthur Siegel, Harry Callahan et Aaron Siskind ont enseigné une approche désinhibée du médium qui a influencé des générations de photographes.

This lavishly illustrated volume looks from both sides of the Atlantic at 80 years of photography from Chicago. At the New Bauhaus and what later became the Institute of Design, teachers like László Moholy-Nagy, György Kepes, Arthur Siegel, Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind taught an uninhibited approach to the medium which influenced generations of photographers.

Pour marquer le début du grand anniversaire du Bauhaus en 2019, le Bauhaus Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung Berlin présente sa collection de « New Bauhaus Photography » unique en Europe. Il présente les protagonistes et les institutions qui, depuis la fondation du Nouveau Bauhaus à Chicago en 1937, ont inspiré, créé et collectionné la photographie, puis l’ont présentée au public. Le large éventail d’illustrations s’étend des photogrammes abstraits et des expériences matérielles aux séries d’œuvres conceptuelles et orientées processus. Des œuvres contemporaines de Chicago complètent le tableau et reflètent l’importance du processus de pensée Bauhaus pour le présent.

To mark the start of the great Bauhaus anniversary in 2019, the Bauhaus Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung Berlin is presenting its collection of “New Bauhaus Photography” which is unique in Europe. It introduces the protagonists and institutions who since the foundation of the New Bauhaus in Chicago in 1937 have inspired, created and collected photography and then presented it to the public. The wide range of illustrations extends from abstract photograms and material experiments to conceptual and process-oriented works series. Contemporary works from Chicago complete the picture and reflect the importance of the Bauhaus thought process for the present day.
