“This book represents a long-cherised desire. The photographs in it are enlargments of frames of the film, meaning that all of the pictures are shots taken directly from the film. I’ve always wondered if scenes and tableaux from my films would also have an effect as individual photos, moving pictures brought to a standstill- if they would take on a meaning of their own even if one were not familiar with their larger context.
