Si le reportage est un voyage, le photographe, lui, en est le passager volontaire. Selon les mots de Dan Eldon, « le voyage est la destination ». Le plus souvent, nous partons à la quête d’une certaine vérité, mais il arrive, comme ce fut le cas pour moi en Afghanistan et en Asie centrale, que nous nous retrouvions à tâtonner dans une obscurité totale, à la recherche d’un élément caché, invisible à nos yeux.
Né en 1949 aux États-Unis, Stanley Greene a travaillé dans le monde entier. Il a photographié les guerres et la pauvreté en Afrique, l’ex-Union Soviétique, l’Amérique centrale, l’Asie et le Moyen Orient, mais son travail le plus connu est sa couverture de la guerre en Tchétchénie. Il a reçu, entre autres, le prix W. Eugene Smith et le World Press, qui lui a été décerné cinq fois. Il a publié plusieurs livres, dont Plaie à vif : Tchétchénie 1994-2003 aux éditions Trolley et travaille actuellement à la sortie d’un livre : Black Passport. Stanley est membre fondateur de l’agence Noor. Il est basé à Paris et à New York.
Born in 1949, USA, Stanley Greene has worked extensively all over the world. He has photographed wars and poverty in Africa, the former Soviet Union, Central America, Asia and the Middle East, but his most well known body of work is his coverage of the war in Chechnya. He is a recipient of the Eugene Smith Humanistic Grant and numerous other awards, including the World Press, which he has received five times. He has published several books including the photo book Open Wound : Chechnya 1994-2003 published by Trolley and is currently working on his upcoming book : Black Passport. Stanley is one of the founding members of Noor agency. He is based in Paris and New York.
