In the 1940s, Brazil underwent a profound transformation. The country was industrializing, opening up internationally, welcoming a large European diaspora fleeing Nazism, and becoming fertile ground for the artistic avant-garde. Echoing this effervescence, a new generation of photographers seized the medium to accompany the aesthetic and cultural upheavals of their time.

Dans les années 1940, le Brésil connaît une mutation profonde. Le pays s’industrialise, s’ouvre à l’international, accueille une forte diaspora européenne, qui fuit le nazisme, et devient un terrain fertile pour les avant-gardes artistiques. En écho à cette effervescence, une nouvelle génération de photographes s’empare du médium pour accompagner les bouleversements esthétiques et culturels de leur temps.
