Cette série lui a valu le prix d’or aux International Photography Awards en 2017.

Akihito Yoshida : The Screw

Miyako Ishiuchi : Postwar Shadows

Recipient of the prestigious Hasselblad Award in 2014, Ishiuchi ranks as one of the most significant photographers working in Japan today.

Après un laps de temps d’environ 40 ans, les photographies de Kitajima Keizo à Koza (aujourd’hui Okinawa City) ont été présentées lors d’une exposition solo tenue en 2022 au Skate Club Orion, un skatepark couvert à Koza. Ce livre photo distinctif « Club Orion » est un montage du passé et du présent, avec des scènes de cette exposition, ainsi que des scènes de l’exposition de 1979 « Photo Express : Tokyo » et des photographies de Koza prises en 1975-79.
After a lapse of about 40 years, Kitajima Keizo’s photographs of Koza (now Okinawa City) were presented at a solo exhibition held in 2022 at Skate Club Orion, an indoor skatepark in Koza. This distinctive photobook “Club Orion” is a montage of past and present, featuring scenes from that exhibition, along with scenes from the 1979 exhibition “Photo Express: Tokyo” and photographs of Koza taken in 1975-79.

Prise à l’origine en 1989, une période décisive non seulement pour l’artiste alors inconnu, Narahashi a exposé les images de sa série « Dawn in Spring » quatre fois durant l’année. Incluant des images non présentées précédemment, ce livre représente la première fois que sa série est disponible en version imprimée.
“Dawn in Spring” brings back the earliest works of Japanese photographer Asako Narahashi. Originally shot in 1989, a decisive period not only for the then-unknown artist, Narahashi exhibited the images from her “Dawn in Spring” series four separate times throughout the year. Including previously unshown images, this book represents the first time her series is made available in print.

Kusukazu Uraguchi : Shima no ama (English Version)

For centuries, ama – women divers – have fed the Japanese imagination. These free-divers collect abalone, shellfish and seaweed, the sale of which ensures their financial independence within the household. Kusukazu Uraguchi (1922-1988) has been photographing them in the Shima region, along the Pacific coast of Japan, for over thirty years since the mid-1950s. The fruit of extensive research among nearly 40,000 negatives – almost all of them previously unpublished – this remarkable archive of landscapes, portraits and underwater views tells the story of both the daily life and the special place of the ama community within Japanese society.

Cette exposition met l’accent sur un fil conducteur unique dans l’histoire de la photographie japonaise qui relie quatre personnes : le critique d’art TAKIGUCHI Shuzo (1903-1979), le peintre et photographe ABE Nobuya (1913-1971) et les photographes OTSUJI Kiyoji (1923–2001) et GOCHO Shigeo (1946–1983). Elle retrace l’histoire de l’esprit qui sous-tend la photographie, à commencer par la découverte par Takiguchi, à la fin des années 1930, de « la beauté cachée dans les plis profonds de la réalité quotidienne ».The end of the avant-garde, and a step beyond it.
This exhibition focuses on a unique thread in the history of Japanese photography that links four individuals: art critic TAKIGUCHI Shuzo (1903–79), painter and photographer ABE Nobuya (1913–71), and photographers OTSUJI Kiyoji (1923–2001) and GOCHO Shigeo (1946–83).
