En 1982, Schirmer/Mosel a publié le premier de huit livres de son travail à ce jour. Ni ses sujets ni sa réalisation artistique – agissant en tant que réalisatrice, photographe et interprète de ses motifs – n’ont perdu leur pertinence aujourd’hui. Bien au contraire : son examen multicouche des thèmes d’identité et des clichés sociaux sont des sujets brûlants à notre époque de discussions de plus en plus publiques sur le genre et les transgenres.
Intitulée The Cindy Sherman Effect, une exposition organisée par le Kunstforum Wien explore l’influence de l’œuvre de Cindy Sherman sur des artistes tels que Sophie Calle, Pipilotti Rist, Sarah Lucas, Gillian Wearing, Candice Breitz, Zanele Muholi, Markus Schinwald, Douglas Gordon, Samuel Fosso et bien d’autres.
In 1982 Schirmer/Mosel published the first of eight books of her work to date. Neither her subjects nor her artistic realization – acting as the director, photographer, and performer of her motifs – have lost their relevance to this day. Quite the contrary: her multilayered examination of themes of identity and social clichés are hot topics in our age of increasingly public gender and transgender discussions.
