Phyars-Burgess Sasha

Sasha Phyars-Burgess est née à Brooklyn, dans l’État de New York, de parents trinidadiens et a grandi à Bethléem, en Pennsylvanie.

Elle est diplômée du Bard College en 2010 avec un BA en photographie où elle a étudié avec An-My Le, Tim Davis, Barbara Ess, Michael Vahrenwald et Larry Fink.
Elle a obtenu une maîtrise en photographie de l’Université Cornell.

Après avoir obtenu son diplôme, elle a travaillé pour Larry Fink pendant un an avant de déménager à Berlin, en Allemagne et à Trinité-et-Tobago.

Elle utilise la photographie comme autonomisation communautaire, photographiant la diaspora africaine, en particulier dans les Caraïbes et en Amérique latine, ainsi que sur la Pennsylvanie.

Sasha Phyars-Burgess a été artiste en résidence au Center for Photography de Woodstock en 2015.

Son travail a été exposé partout aux États-Unis, y compris à la Roman Susan Gallery, Chicago, IL; au Silver Eye Center for Photography, Pittsburg, PA; à la Fotografiska, New York; et au Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, Philadelphie, PA; entre autres.

Sasah Phyars-Burgess a remporté le First PhotoBook Award de Paris Photo/Aperture Foundation 2021 pour Untitled, publié par Capricious.
Elle a aussi été récipiendaire de la bourse Diane Dammeyer en arts photographiques et enjeux sociaux en 2021.
