Two Places on Earth est une collection de 54 photographies en couleur prises par l’artiste américain Chan Chao sur une période de cinq ans commençant au début des années 2000.
Le volume présente deux populations apparemment sans rapport : les Casques bleus de l’ONU à Chypre et les prisonnières au Pérou. Les deux groupes sont multinationaux, représentant 15 pays, et la plupart des sujets sont de jeunes adultes dont la vie « a été façonnée par des forces mondiales et des choix personnels », selon l’artiste.
Two Places on Earth is a collection of 54 color photographs taken by American artist Chan Chao over a five-year period beginning in the early 2000s.
The volume features two seemingly unrelated populations: UN peacekeepers in Cyprus and female prisoners in Peru. Both groups are multinational, representing 15 countries, and most of the subjects are young adults whose lives “have been shaped by global forces and personal choices,” according to the artist.

En adaptant le format vertical et les multiples perspectives de la peinture traditionnelle chinoise, ces photographies saisissent la vie et les activités qui se déroulent dans le paysage mouvant du « poumon de Manhattan ».
Time is not bound by culture, and neither is nature. In order to comprehend and appreciate all aspects of Central Park, Jeff Liao followed the Chinese 24 Solar Terms timetable to document the micro changes that happen in this phenomenal “man-made nature”. By adapting the vertical format and multiple perspectives of traditional Chinese landscape paintings, these photographs capture the life and activities that occur within the shifting landscape of the “lung of Manhattan”.
