Dans Landet utom sig (Country Beside Itself), son projet de révélation, Tunbjörk part à la rencontre de gens dans des campings, des centres commerciaux et des grands magasins pour raconter l’arrivée soudaine de l’économie de marché en Suède, une évolution sociale qui, dans les années 1990, fut également mondiale. Armé de son appareil moyen format et d’un flash bricolé, il a créé des images absurdes, pleines à la fois d’humour et de mélancolie. Le « tunbjörkare » est devenu un concept, et Lars Tunbjörk s’est inscrit dans l’histoire de la photographie.
Il s’agit d’une nouvelle édition, mise à jour, de l’ouvrage original paru pour la première fois en 1993.
Outre les photographies et textes d’origine, le livre comprend une nouvelle préface de Lena Kvist ainsi qu’un texte actualisé de Göran Greider & Thomas Tidholm, photos en couleurs.
In Landet utom sig (Country Beside Itself), Tunbjörk’s breakthrough project, he seeks out people at campsites, shopping centers and department stores to tell the story of the market economy’s sudden arrival in Sweden, a social development that in the 90s was also global. With his medium format camera and homemade flash, he created absurdist images full of both humor and sadness. A ’tunbjörkare’ became a concept, and he wrote himself into the history of photography.
This is a new, updated edition of the original book, first published in 1993.
In addition to the original photographs and texts, the book includes a new foreword by Lena Kvist and an updated text by Göran Greider & Thomas Tidholm.
