La première est une qualité studieuse où les compositions soignées et la richesse des détails associés à la photographie grand format confèrent à l’œuvre une impressionnante rigueur formelle. Cette formalité est complétée par un attrait pour la dynamique visuelle de l’industrie et de la production. Les deux regroupements de photographies dans Atmos ont été réalisés en 2003 sur la plaine de Camargue où le Rhône atteint la mer Méditerranée dans le sud de la France. Le premier groupe, relié sur le côté droit du livre, reflète la nature sauvage sereine typique de la Camargue. Le second groupe a été réalisé sur le terrain d’une aciérie située à l’est du delta. Pendant le processus de fabrication de l’acier, vingt tonnes d’eau sont versées sur le coke redhot, libérant un immense nuage de vapeur qui est visible toutes les quelques minutes.

The first is a studious quality where the careful compositions and richness of detail associated with large format photography lend the work an impressive formal rigour. Complementing this formality is an attraction to the visual dynamics of industry and production. The two groupings of photographs in Atmos were made in 2003 on the Camargue plain where the Rhône River reaches the Mediterranean Sea in the south of France. The first grouping, bound on the right hand side of the book, reflects the serene wilderness typical of the Camargue. The second group were made on the grounds of a steel factory located on the eastern edge of the delta. During the steel making process, twenty tons of water are poured over the redhot coke, releasing an immense steam cloud which is visible every few minutes.
