Around 1912 the photographer E.J. Bellocq found a compelling fascination in the women of the district, and the only work to have survived his death were his portraits of these prostitutes.

Adrianna Ault a été élevée à la Nouvelle-Orléans où un système de digue de 565 km contrôle et retient les eaux de crue. Ce projet a commencé alors qu’Adrianna Ault tentait de mieux comprendre le paysage entourant la ville, mais a évolué au cours des 5 années pour englober sa famille changeante, les voyages qu’ils ont pris et le traitement du deuil. La digue est devenue une métaphore des barrières érigées pour tenter de conjurer le déclin inévitable et l’assaut du temps et de la nature.
Adrianna Ault was raised in New Orleans where a 350 mile levee system controls and holds back flood waters. This project began as Adrianna Ault attempted to better understand the landscape surrounding the city, but evolved over the course of 5-years to encompass her changing family, journeys they took and the processing of grief. The levee became a metaphor for the barriers built in an attempt to ward off inevitable decline, and the onslaught of time and nature.
