Les œuvres du catalogue ont été acquises par Mufoco en décembre 2023 grâce à l’appel ouvert L’Italia è un desiderio (L’Italie est un désir) promu par la Direction-Général pour la créativité contemporaine du ministère italien de la Culture et le Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea avec la collaboration institutionnelle de la Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia et des Scuderie del Quirinale.
This publication follows the “Veggenti. Nuove ricerche visive sul paesaggio italiano (New Visual Research on Italian Landscape)” exhibition presented at the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea from 14 December 2024 to 30 March 2025.
The works in the catalogue were acquired by Mufoco in December 2023 thanks to the Open Call L’Italia è un desiderio (Italy is a Desire) promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea with the institutional collaboration of the Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia and Scuderie del Quirinale.

Le corpus d’images présenté au sein de Fashion Army provient d’une archive couvrant la fin des années 1960 jusqu’au début des années 1990, récemment déclassifiée, constituée de 14 134 scans de négatifs issus du Natick Soldiers Systems Center, centre de recherche et développement de l’armée américaine. Si la source de cette archive est identifiée, sa finalité reste quant à elle à ce jour inconnue. Nulle trace de sa circulation; ne subsiste dès lors que la possibilité de supposer son intention: celle d’un fonds photographique destiné à l’usage interne, d’un centre militaire encore en activité dont on sait qu’il a en charge de tester les prototypes d’uniformes et d’équipement des soldats. L’armée américaine, contactée, n’a pas été en mesure de répondre à nos nombreuses questions, nous précisant manquer de ressources pour nous accompagner.
The corpus of images presented in Fashion Army is drawn from a recently declassified archive covering the late 1960s to early 1990s, consisting of 14,134 scans of negatives from the Natick Soldiers Systems Center, a U.S. Army’s research and development unit. Although the source of this archive has been identified, its purpose remains unknown. There is no trace of its circulation. All that remains is the possibility of supposing its intention: that of a photographic collection for internal use by a military unit still in operation, known to be responsible for testing prototypes of soldiers’ uniforms and equipment. When questioned about its purpose, the U.S. Army was not able to respond and devote resources to answer our questions, sticking to indifference.

Cette exposition met l’accent sur un fil conducteur unique dans l’histoire de la photographie japonaise qui relie quatre personnes : le critique d’art TAKIGUCHI Shuzo (1903-1979), le peintre et photographe ABE Nobuya (1913-1971) et les photographes OTSUJI Kiyoji (1923–2001) et GOCHO Shigeo (1946–1983). This exhibition focuses on a unique thread in the history of Japanese photography that links four individuals: art critic TAKIGUCHI Shuzo (1903–79), painter and photographer ABE Nobuya (1913–71), and photographers OTSUJI Kiyoji (1923–2001) and GOCHO Shigeo (1946–83).
