Après la parution d’un premier livre, présentant des photographies des voyages de Stéphane Duroy aux États-Unis, celui-ci a retravaillé sur son ouvrage. Il y a notamment ajouté des collages, des coupures de presse, des photographies anonymes ou des peintures abstraites.

Janet Delaney : Public Matters
Capturant l’esprit de contestations et de manifestations, les photographies de Janet Delaney témoignent de l’agitation à San Francisco lors de l’élection de Reagan. La photographe nous conduit au cœur des protestations, avec son cortège de manifestants, organisateurs, spectateurs qui reprirent les nombreuses problématiques non résolues et mises en pause par l’arrivée au pouvoir du nouveau président : les droits des femmes, des homosexuels, les questions environnementales et bien d’autres. Célébrant la lutte collective pour la justice sociale, ses photographies nous rappellent qu’encore aujourd’hui, la nécessité de faire entendre sa voix est plus que jamais d’actualité.
Capturing the spirit of protest and parade, Public Matters brings together photographs made by Janet Delaney in Reagan-era San Francisco. At this turbulent time in the mid eighties, Delaney was living in the primarily Latino neighbourhood of the Mission District. She would spend the weekends photographing public gatherings, from the annual Cinco de Mayo parade, to the Peace, Jobs and Justice marches, which rallied against the U.S. invasion of Nicaragua. If political governance was regressing, the West Coast city was a place where, as Delaney remembers, ‘progressive ideas would always be upheld.’ Celebrating multiculturalism and collective struggles for social justice, Public Matters surfaces at a juncture when the message of building bridges is needed now more than ever.
