Les deux séries ont été photographiées autour de l’époque où Narahara a créé ses chefs-d’œuvre légendaires « Terre humaine » (1956) et « Domaines » (1958). Les deux « Tokyo, les années 50 » et « Blue Yokohama » appartiennent à ce que Narahara appelait ses « documentations personnelles ». Les photos prises dans le style des instantanés moins posées et l’appareil photo tenu à la main, elles représentent une facette différente de la photographie habituelle de Ikko Narahara – ouverte à la fluidité, l’immédiateté et la nature imprévisible de la vie quotidienne.
Le livre comprend une postface d’Ikko Narahara ainsi qu’un essai du critique de photographie Kotaro Iizawa, et une carte postale.
Both series were photographed around the time Narahara created his legendary masterworks “Human Land” (1956) and “Domains” (1958). Both “Tokyo, the ‘50s” and “Blue Yokohama” belong to what Narahara called his “personal documentations.” Shot in a looser, handheld snapshots style, they represent a different side of Narahara’s photography – open to the fluidity, immediacy and unpredictable nature of everyday life.
The book includes an afterword by Ikko Narahara as well as an essay by photography critic Kotaro Iizawa, and a postcard.
