Sous le commissariat visionnaire de Luciani, chaque résidence efface les frontières entre l’artisanat classique et la fabrication contemporaine de mythes. Son approche interdisciplinaire singulière, en tant que fondatrice du Southway Studio à Marseille, insuffle au programme un esprit à la fois respectueux du passé et pleinement ancré dans le présent. Chaque artiste a été invité à s’engager profondément avec le savoir-faire des artisans d’Hermès travaillant la soie, le cuir, le cristal et le métal, donnant naissance à des gestes artistiques entièrement nouveaux, façonnés par la logique matérielle de l’atelier.
Ancrée par une série photographique inédite commandée au photographe brésilien Marcelo Gomes, dont les images sensuelles et texturées suivent les artistes au travail et font écho à la dimension tactile des processus, la publication comprend également des contributions du photographe français Tadzio, partenaire de longue date de la Fondation d’entreprise Hermès, reconnu pour sa manière sensible de saisir les métiers et la matière. Under Luciani’s visionary curatorship, each residency dissolves the boundary between classical craft and contemporary myth-making. Her distinctive interdisciplinary ethos as founder of Marseille-based Southway Studio infuses the program with a spirit that is both reverent of the past and alive to the present. Each artist has been invited to engage deeply with the savoir-faire of Hermès artisans working in silk, leather, crystal and metal—resulting in wholly new artistic gestures shaped by the material logic of the atelier.
Anchored by a newly commissioned photographic series by Brazilian photographer Marcelo Gomes, whose sensuous, textural images follow each artist at work and mirror the tactility of process, the publication also includes further contributions by French photographer Tadzio, a Fondation d’entreprise Hermès long-term partner, skilled in capturing crafts and material through a sensitive approach.
