De son émergence — marquée par le développement dans les années 1930 de nouvelles méthodes d’enseignement basées sur l’image plutôt que sur le texte—jusqu’à aujourd’hui, le livre photo pour enfants a été investi dans la nature réaliste de la photographie. Couvrant toutes les catégories de la littérature pour enfants, des abécédaires aux réinterprétations des contes traditionnels, il accompagne l’enfant dans son processus de développement et d’émancipation et stimule sa créativité, le tout avec un objectif commun en tête : pour questionner et nourrir leur vision du monde. Ce genre, qui a été exploré par certaines des figures majeures de la photographie, est également un domaine principalement favorisé par les femmes photographes. From its emergence—marked by the development in the 1930s of new teaching methods based on images rather than text—through to the present day, the children’s photobook has been invested in the realistic nature of photography. Covering all the different categories of children’s literature, from ABC books to reinterpretations of traditional fairy tales, it accompanies the child in their process of development and emancipation and stimulates their creativity, all with a common goal in mind: to question and nurture their view of the world. This genre, which has been explored by some of the major figures in photography, is also a field that is predominately favored by women photographers.
