Down on the Street” est une série de photographies prises par Takehiko Nakafuji dans les rues des villes du monde entier, de Chicago à Paris, en passant par Santiago du Chili, Berlin, Barcelone, Séoul, Hong Kong, Prague, Shanghai, La Havane, Hô Chi Minh-Ville et bien sûr Tokyo et New York. Dans le livre, Nakafuji organise ses photographies sans référence au temps ou au lieu, permettant aux images de déployer leur pouvoir inexplicable qui transcende le sens et l’explication conventionnels. Tourné spontanément et dans la rue, Nakafuji mélange genres, sujets et formes, passant de superbes paysages urbains et portraits à des photographies de surfaces et d’affiches à la Moriyama, des moments marquants et des instantanés de mode de style magazine.

“Down on the Street” features photographs by Takehiko Nakafuji taken on the streets of cities around the world, from Chicago to Paris, Santiago de Chile, Berlin, Barcelona, Seoul, Hong Kong, Prague, Shanghai, Havana, Ho Chi Minh City, and, of course, Tokyo and New York. In the book, Nakafuji arranges his photographs without reference to time or place, allowing the images to unfold their inexplicable power that transcends conventional meaning and explanation. Shot spontaneously and on the street, Nakafuji mixes genres, subjects, and forms, moving from stunning cityscapes and portraits to Moriyama-esque photographs of surfaces and posters, defining moments, and fashion magazine-style snapshots.
