‘There will be two of you’ réorganise et ajoute aux 133 images panoramiques originales des Meadowlands du New Jersey commandées par Okwui Enwezor pour Documenta 11 en 2002. Les photographies en noir et blanc ont été installées à Documenta comme une grille murale, mais sont ici restaurées à la séquence dans laquelle elles ont été prises pendant une année de promenades sinueuses. Les Meadowlands ont longtemps été au cœur de l’imagination visuelle d’Ashkin. Dans le texte d’accompagnement, « Il y aura deux d’entre vous », un incident énigmatique au centre symbolique du paysage promet une allégorie rédemptrice qu’il ne peut pas livrer.
‘There will be two of you’ reorganises and adds to the original 133 panoramic images of the New Jersey Meadowlands commissioned by Okwui Enwezor for Documenta 11 in 2002. The black and white photographs were installed at Documenta as a wall grid, but are here restored to the sequence in which they were taken during a year of meandering walks. The Meadowlands have long been at the core of Ashkin’s visual imagination. In the accompanying text, “There will be two of you,” an enigmatic incident at the landscape’s symbolic center promises a redemptive allegory it cannot deliver.
