More than a quarter of a century after its publication, it is hard to underestimate the importance of The Last Resort for both British photography and Martin Parr’s career.
C’est entre 1982 et 1985 que Martin Parr réalise la série The Last Resort. Entre satire et cruauté – non dénuées d’une certaine tendresse pour ses congénères anglais –, il dresse le portrait de familles aux revenus modestes prenant leurs vacances à New Brighton près de Liverpool, petite station balnéaire en déclin.
Martin Parr shot the series The Last Resort between 1982 and 1985. Between satire and cruelty – not without a certain tenderness for his English counterparts – he paints the portrait of families with modest incomes taking their holidays in New Brighton near Liverpool, a small seaside resort in decline.

« Golden Times » de Feng Li est une documentation sauvage et énergique d’un phénomène éphémère mais fascinant qui s’est produit près de la maison du photographe de Chengdu. De retour d’un travail à Tokyo, Feng Li a remarqué des vidéos sur les réseaux sociaux de grands groupes de personnes dansant sur de la musique électrique dans un domaine peu engageant (surnommé la Golden Beach) et a décidé de se chercher. Les photographies de « Golden Times » capturent l’atmosphère spontanée et éclectique des rassemblements nocturnes. Les villageois locaux, la plupart d’entre eux dans la quarantaine ou la cinquantaine, se mélangent avec des enfants ou des jeunes costumés qui se filment alors qu’ils continuent à danser dans la nuit.
Feng Li’s “Golden Times” is a wild, energetic documentation of a short-lived but fascinating phenomenon that occurred near the photographer’s home of Chengdu. Having returned from a job in Tokyo, Feng Li noticed videos on social media of large groups of people dancing to electric music in an uninviting field (nicknamed the Golden Beach) and decided to have a look for himself. The photographs in “Golden Times” capture the spontaneous and eclectic atmosphere of the nightly gatherings. Local villagers, most of them in their 40s or 50s, mix with children or costumed youngsters filming themselves as they continue to dance into the night.
