Dans les années 1970, bien qu’ils ne se connaissaient pas encore, Azzedine Alaïa et Arthur Elgort allaient suivre le même chemin. Le premier s’est rendu compte que la mode avait changé : ce n’était plus tellement dans les salons que la mode devait être appréciée mais dans la rue. Ce dernier, Arthur Elgort, alors jeune photographe pour l’édition anglaise de ‘Vogue’, était en train d’établir une nouvelle vision de la photographie. Ses clichés définiraient bientôt un briquet, style photographique plus informel d’une grande spontanéité. En même temps que le créateur de mode voyait son idéal féminin incarné dans la rue et porté par un nombre toujours croissant de clients, le photographe quittait le studio, ouvrir les fenêtres, prendre le mouvement et les villes comme un cadre naturel et nouveau. Les deux activement contribué à renouveler la représentation de la femme maintenant affirmée, déterminée et indépendante.
In the 1970s, despite not yet knowing each other, Azzedine Alaïa and Arthur Elgort were about to go down the same path. The former realized that fashion had changed: it was now no longer so much in the salons that fashion had to be appreciated but in the street. The latter, Arthur Elgort, then a young photographer for the English edition of ‘Vogue’, was in the process of establishing a new vision of photography. His snapshots would soon define a lighter, more informal photographic style of great spontaneity. At the same time as the fashion designer was seeing his feminine ideal embodied in the street and worn by an ever-increasing number of clients, the photographer was leaving the studio, opening the windows, and taking over movement and cities as a natural and new setting. Both actively contributed to renewing the representation of the now assertive, determined and independent woman.
