Esù est l’une des entités les plus énigmatiques de la cosmogonie des religions ouest-africaines et il a traversé l’océan main dans la main avec les esclaves pour atterrir dans un nouveau monde où le travail forcé, le manque de liberté et les missionnaires forceraient une transformation qui dure jusqu’à aujourd’hui dans la compréhension globale des religions d’origine africaine. Midnight at the Crossroads documente et enregistre ces transformations et adaptations depuis son origine au Bénin jusqu’à Cuba, le Brésil puis Haïti. Esù commence comme un totem au Bénin, devient enfant à Cuba, puis un jeune séducteur au Brésil et enfin un vieillard en Haïti, mais c’est toujours un esprit déroutant qui questionne vos certitudes et vous fait douter en cours de route.
Esù est l’énergie du changement et de la mutation. Il est difficile de définir si ses influences sont bonnes ou mauvaises, mais pour dire le moins elles sont difficiles. Il est celui qui est responsable de la communication avec les autres Orishas, il est responsable du carrefour et il est celui qui place des obstacles sur votre chemin pour que vous rachetiez le contrôle sur votre propre vie.
Afin d’apporter un peu de lumière au récit obscur qui prédomine dans la culture populaire et qui relie directement les religions d’origine africaine comme Umbanda, Santeria ou Voodoo, aux énergies diaboliques, Ce projet combine une approche documentaire des rituels et des cérémonies avec des visions autour des mythes et des légendes qui sont illustrés pour fournir une compréhension plus large et non linéaire ; photos en couleurs.

In order to bring some light to the obscure narrative that predominates in popular culture and that directly links African rooted religions like Umbanda, Santeria or Voodoo, to devilish energies, this project combines a documentary approach to rituals and ceremonies with visions around the myths and legends that are illustrated to provide a wider and non-linear understanding.
