Jane Rogoyska commence son histoire de la vie de Gerda Taro avec une description de la découverte en 2007 de ce qui est devenu connu comme “La valise mexicaine”. L’apparition de milliers de négatifs par Capa et Taro, et par leur camarade photographe Chim, a permis une réévaluation de tout son ensemble d’images et pour l’identification correcte de son travail. Le livre de Rogoyska, illustré par de nombreuses photographies rarement vues de Taro et de Capa, établit les réalisations de Taro en tant que photographe et donne un aperçu de la relation de travail du couple.
Le livre fournit le contexte, à travers un récit détaillé de la guerre, et la substance, à travers le récit biographique, avec lequel dessiner un portrait complexe et héroïque de la photographe.

Jane Rogoyska begins her story of Taro’s life with a description of the discovery in 2007 of what became known as “The Mexican Suitcase”. The appearance of thousands of negatives by both Capa and Taro, and by their fellow photographer Chim, allowed for a re-assessment of her entire body of pictures and for the correct identification of her work. Rogoyska’s book, illustrated throughout with many rarely seen photographs by both Taro and Capa, establishes Taro’s accomplishments as a photographer and provides an insight into the couple’s working relationship. The book provides the context, through a detailed narrative of the war, and the substance, through the biographical account, with which to draw a portrait of his complex and heroic figure.
