“N” est une œuvre qui raconte la dualité d’une province italienne et le lien entre celle-ci et une partie de ses habitants, en particulier la génération des trentenaires. Des jeunes avec des structures et des formations solides qui doivent affronter (dans une recherche désespérée de l’avenir et de la stabilité) les provinciaux dynamiques contemporains dans lesquels ils sont pris au piège, entre aller ou rester, entre le désir d’un avenir différent et le désir de ne pas abandonner votre pays. Des lieux où l’on est presque forcé de vivre selon des logiques préétablies, dictées par une sorte de règle supérieure qui impose une existence “normale” et prescrit des comportements “standard”, d’un certain type de mentalité : la famille parfaite, l’amour idyllique, l’annihilation des valeurs culturelles profondes et la célébration du mauvais divertissement, l’exécution d’un travail sans trop d’exigences. Oui, mais qu’est-ce qui est normal ?
Comme un trou noir géant, cet endroit semble sucer. Il y a souvent un fil étroit, parfois imperceptible, mais incroyablement fort entre un lieu d’appartenance et ses habitants. Et les ambitions ? LES désirs de croissance pour ceux qui tentent de sortir même légèrement des modèles existentiels traditionnels? Les vidéos montrent que la patine de la beauté apparente comme le temps dilaté de ces lieux. Les photographies, en revanche, sont un moyen d’entrer et d’observer ce qui arrive aux protagonistes qui vivent aux limites d’une banlieue européenne ; texte d’Attilio Gavini, photos en n.b.

“N” is a work that tells the duality of an Italian province and the link between this and a part of its inhabitants, in particular the generation of the thirty-year-olds. Young people with solid structures and formations that must confront (in a desperate search for the future and stability) with the dynamic provincials contemporary in which they are trapped, poised between going or staying, between the desire for a different future and the desire to not want to give up your country. Places where one is almost forced to live according to pre-established logics, dictated by a sort of rule superior that imposes a “normal” existence and prescribes “standard” behaviors, of a certain type of mentality: the perfect family, idyllic love, the annihilation of deep cultural values and the celebration of poor entertainment, the performance of a job without too many demands. Yeah, but what’s normal?
Like a giant black hole, this place seems to suck. There is often a thin thread, sometimes imperceptible, but incredibly strong between a place of belonging and its inhabitants. And the ambitions? THE desires of growth for those who try to go out even slightly from the traditional existential patterns? The videos show that patina of apparent beauty as the dilated time of these places.
