En 1986, Manfred Paul a eu l’occasion de présenter ses tableaux dans une exposition au Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Orléans. Deux ans plus tard, il reçoit une invitation pour un voyage d’étude à Paris. Pendant près de six semaines, Paul a eu l’occasion alors rare d’explorer un autre pays, et il était donc impatient de tout voir et de découvrir de nouvelles choses. Le photographe a pu emprunter un Leica M3 à un employé du Centre Culturel Français à Berlin; grâce au viseur optique de cet appareil, il a vécu Paris d’une manière unique, ce qui a également changé sa façon de voir.
In 1986 Manfred Paul had the opportunity to present his pictures in an exhibition at the Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Orléans. Two years later, he received an invitation to go on a study trip to Paris. For almost six weeks, Paul had the then rare opportunity to explore another country, and so he was eager to see everything and discover new things. The photographer was able to borrow a Leica M3 from an employee of the French Cultural Center in Berlin; through the optical viewfinder of this camera, he experienced Paris in a unique way, which also changed his way of seeing.
