Après ses débuts en tant que photographe de presse, Shintaro Sato travaille comme photographe freelance depuis 2002. Son travail s’articule autour de l’atmosphère distinctive (l’« âme ») de Tokyo. Geological features influence the way cities are designed, and the combination of human activities, the history of the land itself, and the history of the city that grows upon it eventually generates this atmosphere. With its stunning urban scenes and panoramas photographed from high viewpoints, always at dusk or night, this book is a supplement to Sato’s earlier publication ‘Tokyo Twilight Zone’ (2008), a collection of photographs capturing scenes of Tokyo from emergency staircases.
