Ralph Ellison : Photographer
Ralph Ellison (1913-1994) est une figure de proue de la littérature américaine, salué pour son roman phare Invisible Man (1952), une représentation révolutionnaire de l’expérience américaine et de la vie quotidienne des Noirs. Ralph Ellison (1913–94) is a foremost figure in American literature, hailed for his seminal novel Invisible Man (1952), a breakthrough representation of the American experience and Black everyday life. Lesser known, however, is his lifelong engagement with photography.
Photographer est le premier livre consacré au vaste travail de Ralph Ellison avec ce medium, qui s’étend des années 1930 aux années 1990.

Le photographe amateur Leonard Fink a vécu et travaillé à New York, documentant plus de 25 ans de vie gay, y compris des défilés de la gay pride, des bars et surtout l’architecture en décomposition des jetées du West Side, qui servaient d’espace pour les homosexuels pour interagir socialement et sexuellement. Amateur photographer Leonard Fink lived and worked in New York City, documenting over 25 years of its gay life, including pride parades, bars, and especially the decaying architecture of the West Side piers, which served as a space for gay men to interact socially and sexually. From the mid-1970s onwards, Fink captured this time of empowerment, cruising, sexual freedom, and openness and experimentation, and his large collection of photographs has proven to be a significant and engaging visual record of the citys gay subculture before the rise of HIV/AIDS would forever change it. This publication marks the first time Finks images have come together as a group.

Paul Strand
Paul Strand était l’un des grands photographes du XXe siècle. Dans sa jeunesse, il étudia sous la direction de Lewis Hine et fut acclamé par des sources aussi illustres qu’Alfred Stieglitz. Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Strand a voyagé à travers le monde pour photographier, et, dans le processus, créé un ensemble dynamique et significatif de travaux. Une importante rétrospective de son travail a été présentée au Philadelphia Museum of Art en octobre 2014.
Paul Strand was one of the great photographers of the twentieth century. As a youth, he studied under Lewis Hine and went on to draw acclaim from such illustrious sources as Alfred Stieglitz. After World War II, Strand traveled around the world to photograph, and, in the process, created a dynamic and significant body of work. A major retrospective of his work was shown at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in October 2014.
