En el viejo mundo recueille les photographies prises par Ruth Matilda Anderson, avec son assistant Frances Spalding, quand ils ont traversé la province zamorane en voiture avec la mission d’étudier et photographier les industries, les vêtements et les coutumes de cette époque. Il a été réalisé pour l’exposition homonyme au Musée Ethnographique de Castille-León, organisée conjointement par la Mairie de Zamora, la Députation Provinciale et l’Hispanic Society, qui offre pour la première fois une sélection des photographies prises au cours de ce voyage accompagnées de notes quotidiennes.
In 1926 Ruth Matilda Anderson, staff photographer for the Hispanic Society of America, New York, travelled throughout Spain to take pictures for their museum. The book contains a smashing collection of the photos she took during four weeks in the province of Zamora. She produced almost 650 images ranging from scenes of Holy Week to those of rural life. The work proved so fruitful that, as she later recognised, the province of Zamora had provided “the richest source so far for our kind of material.” Although she was following specific instructions from the Hispanic Society as to what to record, she demonstrated such talent that her pictures afford a remarkable glimpse of life at that time, vividly evoking this world with great humanity and artistry.
En el viejo mundo recoge las fotografías realizadas por Ruth Matilda Anderson, junto con su ayudante Frances Spalding, cuando cruzaron la provincia zamorana en coche con la misión de estudiar y fotografiar las industrias, indumentaria y costumbres de aquella época. Se ha realizado para la exposición homónima en el Museo Etnográfico de Castilla y León, organizada conjuntamente por el Ayuntamiento de Zamora, la Diputación Provincial y la Hispanic Society, que ofrece por primera vez una selección de las fotografías tomadas durante aquel viaje acompañadas por apuntes a modo de diario.
