Les négatifs sur plaques de verre entrèrent ensuite en possession du grand photographe américain Lee Friedlander, dont les tirages réalisés à partir de ces plaques originales furent exposés au Museum of Modern Art de New York en 1970. La collection présentée dans cet ouvrage comprend plusieurs photographies jusqu’alors inédites, dont beaucoup portent la patine du temps, patine à laquelle on attribue une beauté accrue et particulièrement évocatrice.

The glass-plate negatives came into the possession of the distinguished American photographer, Lee Friedlander, and his prints from these original plates were exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1970. The collection in this book includes a number of previously unpublished photographs, many of which are marked by the patina of their age, with which they are considered to have acquired a heightened and evocative beauty.
