Ici, la règle photographique est de relier la côte Est des États-Unis à sa côte Ouest à travers des images d’ « objets ». Le livre rompt avec l’image du « road trip » et de ses passages obligés à travers une mise en séquence à la fois ambitieuse et minimaliste. Il reprend la grande mythologie américaine de la Frontière théorisée par Frederick Jackson Turner (1893) dont on ne retiendrait ici qu’un abécédaire d’objets de tous les jours. Cependant c’est par eux que se déroule un continuum spatial nous faisant passer d’un océan à un autre. C’est comme si It’s a Crossing… voulait rassembler la grande Histoire avec la petite, la mythologie avec la banalité, la fiction avec le documentaire.

Here, the photographic rule is to connect the East Coast of the United States to its West Coast through images of “objects.” The book breaks with the image of the “road trip” and its mandatory stops through a sequencing that is both ambitious and minimalist. It takes up the grand American mythology of the Frontier theorized by Frederick Jackson Turner (1893), of which only an abecedary of everyday objects is retained here. However, it is through them that a spatial continuum unfolds, taking us from one ocean to the other. It is as if It’s a Crossing… wanted to bring together grand History with the small, mythology with banality, fiction with documentary.
